TEDxRigaYouth which we have hosted last night at Birojnīca, has gathered tens of young people – all ready to get inspired.
TEDxYouthDay is a series of TEDx events happening all around the world coinciding with Universal Children’s Day in late November. These events are designed to empower and inspire young people. These events vary widely in size, format, and theme, but they share a common vision: inspiring curiosity, igniting new ideas, and empowering young leaders.
And that’s exactly what TEDxRigaYouth did: in cooperation with the youth center “Kaņieris” we had three live speakers and watched three video talks + one thematic video.
First, Rinalds Rudzītis spoke about Non-governmental organizations and informal learning as the school of life skills. His performance was preceded by Signe Bjørg Jensen’s video talk Watch out for the scouts:
Sanita Lāce, board member of youth organization “RED – Creative Effect Workshop” (“Radošu Efektu Darbnīca”) then gave a talk about Youth and the system: You don’t see what you don’t know. Youth and system – who wins? (Tu neredzi, to ko nezini. Jaunieši un sistēmas – kurš, kuru!) (in Latvian). Before she spoke, we watched Caroline Casey’s touching video talk Looking past limits:
Later on, we watched the amazing story of Thomas Suarez, a 12-year-old app developer:
And to conclude the program, Katrīna Rutka spoke about TED’s Open Translation Project, and showed us the inspirational video called Why I translate TEDTalks:
